19 of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his first championship for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has had a difficult season, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with his coach and his other coach, he has gradually advanced in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden title following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court since that period of that year.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has secured twenty-one titles at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," said ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's retrieving strategy and recurring emotional displays on court had caused some to question if his ability to perform at the highest level was finished.

Yet the player has made changes in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and perform aggressively, backed up by an improved service.

He came back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, taking four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped service breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his initial professional victory, took control to create a final set.

The opponent saved four early break points in a close final set before the champion secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner earned the title with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
