Loud Blasts and Plumes of Smoke Witnessed in the Heart of Tehran
According to on-the-ground reports, two powerful explosions were heard in Tehran on Saturday. Simultaneously, two plumes of dense smoke were seen rising over central and eastern districts of the Iranian capital.
“The nature of explosions indicates that this is a strike involving missiles,” a media outlet stated, without immediately provide further details.
Context: Rising Strains and Recent Events
The incident occurs against a background of sharply increased strains in the region. Major events leading up to this strike include:
- American Naval Deployment: A significant build-up of US naval forces in the region, featuring the movement of carrier strike groups.
- Nuclear Talks: Latest discussions between the US and Iran on Tehran's atomic program concluded without a deal, with suggestions of more talks scheduled.
- Public Statements: Prior to the strike, a prominent American figure had labeled Iran as “the leading state sponsor of terrorism” and delivered threats regarding its weapons development.
- Ultimatum: Allegedly, a deadline of 10 to 15 days had been given to Iran to settle the atomic standoff or face severe consequences.
Reaction from Tehran
In response to earlier allegations, Iranian authorities had charged the US of spreading “big lies” about its missiles programme. They dismissed claims about missile development and protest deaths as baseless.
The situation is fluid, with further updates anticipated as events unfold.
