Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Officers say they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered many other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police say early analysis suggest the substance was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; officials are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the public for tips.
A senior political figure said the incident made him speechless and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
